Stephen Curry 2023-24 Profile

Stephen Curry — the 6 foot 2, 185 pound point guard for the Golden State Warriors — is undoubtedly the greatest three point shooter in NBA history. Not only has he already shattered the record for most three’s ever made in the NBA, but anybody who has watched Curry perform can see that he is truly one step — rather, one shot — above the rest.

While Curry’s Hall of Fame legacy is already set in stone, he still has at least a few more years left in the league. Now the questions becomes whether his Warriors have another championship run (or two) left in them, or whether 4 championships are all Stephen Curry will finish with.

In this article, we’ll discuss Stephen Curry’s general information, his pre-NBA background, how his career has gone thus far, and what we can expect from Stephen as the 2023-24 season unfolds.

Stephen Curry General Information

Wardell Stephen Curry II was born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio, USA. His parents are Dell Curry and Sonya Curry. Dell, Stephen’s father, played in the NBA throughout Stephen’s childhood, and his mother Sonya was a college volleyball player. Stephen’s brother Seth is also an NBA player.

Stephen Curry is married to Ayesha Curry, who is a cookbook author and television personality. The couple met at church when they were teenagers, were married in 2011, and now have three children together.

On August 6, 2021, Stephen Curry signed a 4 year, $215,353,664 contract with the Golden State Warriors — making for an average annual salary of $53,838,416. Curry’s net worth is estimated to be $160 million.

Stephen Curry wears jersey number 30, and is a size 13.5 (US) shoe.

Stephen Curry Background

Considering that his father was in the NBA during his childhood, Stephen Curry was exposed to a lot of high-level basketball growing up. After bouncing around the US and Canada following the teams his father player for, the Curry’s finally settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, after Dell Curry retired. Here, Stephen enrolled at Charlotte Christian School, where he led his team to three conference titles and three state playoff appearances.

Yet, Curry was still only 160 pounds, and therefore didn’t receive much interest from top-tier Division 1 schools. Ultimately, Curry committed to play college basketball at Davidson College.

As a freshman at Davidson, Curry broke the NCAA record for most three pointers made by a freshman. At the end of his freshman season, Curry was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, SoCon Tournament MVP, and selected to the SoCon All-tournament team, All-freshman team, and All-SoCon First Team.

Come Sophomore year in 2008, Curry had grown to 6 foot 2 inches tall. He led the tenth-seeded Davidson team in a miraculous NCAA tournament run, all the way to the Elite Eight, where they lost to the eventual Champion, Kansas Jayhawks. Curry finished the season averaging 25.9 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game, and gained nationwide notoriety for his shooting skills displayed in the NCAA tournament.

Returning for his junior season, Curry set a Davidson record for most points ever scored. Yet, his team lost in the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament, and didn’t make the NCAA tournament. In his final season at Davidson, Curry averaged 28.6 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.5 steals. He was the NCAA scoring leader and was named a consensus first team All-American.

After that season ended, Curry declared for the 2009 NBA Draft. And on June 25, 2009, Curry was selected as the seventh overall pick of the 2009 Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

Stephen Curry’s NBA Career So Far

Curry produced a solid rookie season with the Warriors, averaging17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.90 steals in 36.2 minutes per game. He was the runner-up in Rookie of the Year voting and earned All-Rookie First Team honors. Curry also finished his rookie season with 166 three-pointers, which were the most ever by a rookie in NBA history.

In the 2010-11 season, Curry averaged 18.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.47 steals in 33.6 minutes per contest. He won the All-Star Game Skills Challenge, as well.

In a shortened lockout 2011-12 season, Curry 14.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in 26 games. Curry also missed many games this season, due to various ankle and foot injuries.

In 2012–13, Curry appeared in 78 games (all starts), averaging 22.9 points (seventh in NBA) and 6.9 assists to go with 4 rebounds and 1.6 steals. He also set a new NBA single-season three-point record with 272 three-pointers (which he’d break many times over).

Curry appeared in the playoffs for the first time in his career this season, with the Warriors being the sixth seed in the Western Conference. In 12 playoff games, he averaged 23.4 points, 8.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds, and set a franchise record for most three pointers in a single postseason, with 42.

In 2013-14, Curry averaged career highs of 24.0 points (seventh in the NBA) and 8.5 assists (fifth) to go with 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals. He made his first All-Star game this season and earned All-NBA Second Team honors.

Curry took off in 2014-15, being the leading vote getter for the 2015 All-Star Game and winning the Three-Point contest. After posting averages of 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, and 2 steals per game, Curry won his first ever NBA MVP award.

The Warriors went on to win the NBA Finals that year, earning Curry his first ever NBA Championship and the first in 40 years for Golden State. During the Finals, Curry averaged 26 points and 6.3 assists per game.

The most historic season of Curry’s career came in 2015-16, as he became the seventh player in NBA history to join the 50-40-90 club, representing the shooting percentages from the field (.504), beyond the arc (.454), and the free-throw line (.908). He was the league’s leading scorer with 30.1 points per game, and was named the first ever unanimous NBA MVP.

Although the Warriors entered the playoffs with a 73-9 record, which was the best regular season record in NBA history, they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals in 7 games.

But the Warriors bounced back in 2016-17. Curry made another All-Star team, he finished the season averaging 25.3 points per game, and the Warriors returned to the NBA Finals. This time, they would defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, earning Curry his second NBA Championship. He averaged 28.1 points per game throughout the playoffs.

The Warriors repeated as NBA Champions in the 2017-18 season, despite Curry missing nearly two months of the season due to a knee injury. In the 2018 NBA Playoffs, Curry averaged 25.5 points per game.

After another All-Star and All-NBA First Team season, Curry and his Warriors returned to the NBA Finals for a third straight time in 2019. Yet, they ultimately lost to the Toronto Raptors. Curry averaged 28.2 points throughout those playoffs.

Unfortunately, Curry’s 2019-20 season was plagued by injuries. He only played in 5 games, and the Warriors were abysmal in his absence.

Curry returned with a vengeance in 2020-21. He won another Three-Point contest, surpassed Wilt Chamberlain to become the Warrior’s all-time scoring leader (17,783), and finished the season averaging 32 points, which was the most in the NBA.

On December 14, 2021, Curry became the NBA’s career leader for three-pointers made, with 2,974. Curry was named All-Star Game MVP, as well. Curry missed the end of the regular season due to an injury, but returned in time for the playoffs.

The Warriors made it to the NBA Finals once again, and Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game throughout the series. Golden State won the NBA Finals, and Curry won his first (and only) NBA Finals MVP award.

In the 2022-23 regular season, Curry averaged 29.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game. The Warriors advanced to the Western Conference Finals, but lost to the Denver Nuggets in 6 games. Curry averaged 30.5 points per game in the playoffs.

While Curry has an extensive National team career with Team USA, he has never won an Olympic Gold Medal, as he has had to miss the last two Olympics due to injury.

Stephen Curry 2023-24 Season Forecast

Stephen Curry could retire today and go down as one of the NBA’s greatest players. Luckily for us, Curry doesn’t seem intent to retire anytime soon — and considering that his Warriors squad still has the same core players that have won them 4 NBA Championships in the past decade, there seems to be a solid chance Curry could win another NBA title. What’s for certain is that Curry’s world-class shot isn’t going away anytime soon, and he could probably spot up and drain three’s for the next ten years, if he’d like to. Regardless, let’s be sure to enjoy Stephen Curry while he’s still making a mockery of NBA defenders. Players like him don’t come around too often.
