Lamar Jackson 2023-24 Profile
Lamar Jackson — the 6 foot 2, 215 pound starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens — has made a (lucrative) career out of proving his doubters wrong. Even after a historic college tenure, where he proved time and time again that his running capabilities complement his throwing skills, detractors still asserted that he would be better suited as a running back or wide receiver in the NFL than a quarterback. Luckily for Ravens fans, their franchise didn’t believe that nonsense for a second — and got an elite franchise quarterback as a result. And while the Ravens haven’t quite been able to break through in the AFC conference during Jackson’s tenure, considering how they’ve performed thus far in the 2023-24 NFL regular season, that postseason success seems right around the corner.
In this article, we’ll discuss Lamar Jackson’s general information, discuss his pre-NFL background, how his NFL career has gone so far, and what to expect from him in the rest of the 2023-24 season.

Jackson wears jersey number 8, and is right-handed.
Lamar Jackson Background
Jackson went to high school at Boynton Beach High School in Boynto Beach, Florida. In two years at Boynton Beach, Jackson threw for 2,263 yards and 31 touchdowns with 9 interceptions. Additionally, he ran for 1,624 yards and 22 touchdowns, and had a quarterback rating of 102.7. He also competed for his high school track team, posting a personal record of 11.45 seconds in the 100 meter dash in one track meet.
After being heavily recruited out of high school by a number of Power Five schools, Jackson ultimately decided to play college football at the University of Louisville.
As a freshman at Louisville, Jackson played in 12 games and won the starting quarterback job midway through the season, ultimately making 8 starts. He completed 135-of-247 passes for 1,840 yards with 12 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and ran for 960 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He was named MVP of the 2015 Music City Bowl, and set a rushing record in the bowl game after running for 226 yards.
Jackson took off as a sophomore. After an incredible regular season that saw Louisville finish 8-5 with a few impressive upsets, Jackson finished the year with 3,543 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 9 interceptions to go along with 260 carries for 1,571 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns — all of which allowed Jackson to win the 2016 Heisman Trophy award, given to the best player in college football. He became the youngest player in history to win the award (19 years, 337 days.) He also won ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and First-team All-ACC, and nearly every other national player of the year awards.
In his junior season, Jackson played excellently once again, finishing with 3,660 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions to go along with 232 carries for 1,601 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 8–5 season. He finished as a Heisman finalist, won ACC Athlete of the Year, and all of the other ACC offensive award he had also won the season before.
Once his junior season ended, Jackson announced his intention to enter the 2018 NFL Draft. And on April 26, 2018, Lamar Jackson was selected with the 32nd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
Lamar Jackson’s NFL Career So Far
Lamar Jackson made his NFL debut in the Ravens’ 2018 season opener, after starting quarterback Joe Flacco was substituted because the Ravens were blowing their opponent out.During Week 7 of that 2018 season, Jackson scored his first NFL touchdown on a 1-yard run. In week 8, Jackson threw his first NFL touchdown pass, a 26-yard completion.
Jackson made his first NFL start on November 18, 2018, after Joe Flacco got injured two weeks prior. Jackson never gave the starting job back. Overall, he finished the season with 1,201 passing yards, 6 passing touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. In addition, he led all quarterbacks with 695 rushing yards and added 5 rushing touchdowns. Ultimately, Jackson led the Ravens to the Wild Card round of the playoffs, where they lost to the San Diego Chargers — despite Jackson having a good game.
Jackson began the 2019 NFL season as the Ravens’ unquestioned starting quarterback. In the season-opener, he became the youngest quarterback ever to achieve a perfect passer rating. The next week, he became the first player in NFL history to pass for more than 250 yards and rush for 120 yards in one game.
He ultimately finished the regular season with 3,127 passing yards, 36 passing touchdowns (most in the NFL), and 6 interceptions, to go along with 1,206 rushing yards (which led the NFL for QB’s) and added 7 rushing touchdowns. Jackson unanimously won the 2019 NFL MVP award, and also started the Pro Bowl, was a First-team All-Pro, and won the Bert Bell Award (NFL Player of the Year).
The 14-2 Ravens weren’t able to replicate their regular season success in the playoffs, as they lost to the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Round. Jackson finished the game completing 31 of 59 passes for 365 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions while also losing a fumble.
Jackson added to his 2019 success in 2020. After a Week 4 victory, Jackson became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 5,000 yards passing and 2,000 yards rushing. In the final game of the regular season Jackson became the first NFL quarterback to have multiple seasons surpassing 1,000 rushing yards. He finished the year with 2,757 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, to go along with 1,005 rushing yards and added 7 rushing touchdowns.
Jackson’s Ravens made the 2020 playoffs, won in the Wild Card Round (the first win of Jackson’s NFL career), then lost in the Divisional Round; a game in which Jackson received a concussion.
After a Week 6 victory in the 2021 regular season, Jackson set the record for the most victories as a starting quarterback under the age of 25, with 35. Unfortunately, Jackson suffered an ankle injury in Week 14, which caused him to miss the remainder of the regular season. He finished the year with 2,882 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, to go along with 767 rushing yards and added 2 rushing touchdowns. He was named to his second Pro Bowl once the year ended.
In Week 2 of the 2022 regular season, Jackson recorded 119 rushing yards, giving him the most 100-yard rushing games by a quarterback in NFL history. Once again, Jackson sustained an injury at the end of the regular season, this time a knee injury in Week 13 that caused him to miss the remainder of the year. He finished the 2022 regular season with 2,242 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 764 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. The Ravens made the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, but Jackson was still injured, couldn’t play, and the Ravens lost.
So far in the 2023 NFL regular season, Jackson already became 1 of 4 NFL quarterbacks to record 5,000 rushing yards in NFL history. He also did so in just 82 career games, the fewest for a quarterback in NFL history, surpassing Michael Vick’s previous record of doing so in 104 career games. The Ravens are currently 9-3, leading the AFC North Division, and Jackson has 2,618 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 574 rushing yards, and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Lamar Jackson 2023-24 Season Forecast
Only time will tell whether Jackson and his Ravens are true Super Bowl contenders in 2023 — yet, it certainly seems like they are. What’s for sure is Jackson is a certified NFL superstar, and so long as he is able to remain healthy both this season and in the future, the Ravens will always find themselves in a position to succeed. And by the time his career is concluded, Lamar Jackson’s name will be etched all throughout the NFL record books.
